Palaghat district is known for good Paddy fields. The main cargo transportation was by Bullock Carts for many decades. There were bullock cart races, cattle markets. Carts and cattle had an important role in village economy. Cattle were looked after very well.

Old Savari Vandi The villages around had a tradition of passenger bullock carts called "Savari Vandi". It was considered to be the prestige of the family to own a passanger cart with good cattle.
 
But, now trucks and tractors replace the carts and cattle. The demand for the Cargo cart being less, the farmers are unable to keep the cattle and the 'Savari Vandi'. Planting rice corps
 
Savari Vandi on trip We offer a unique "Savari Vandi" for comfortable journey and sight seeing. It is eight feet tall. One-foot high windows on both sides assure 360-° view to all sides. Interior is 5 feet high. The cart has 20 square foot area to sit or even lie back. 
 
The trip starts from Nenmara (one hour drive from Trichur). The guests visit remote villages and see paddy fields, houses, teashops, post office, barber shop, toddy shop, schools, blacksmith. See the birds Braminy kite (Eagle), kranes. Harvesting Rice
 
Harvesting Ginger See Teak trees, rosewood, cotton trees, pappaya, neem, tamarind, betel nuts trees, cashew nuts trees, ginger, turmeric plants, chillies etc.
 

The cart even makes a small trip to the mountain to have a look at the landscape and the lake.

Taking rice from Paddy The trip starts at 09.00 a.m. makes a round trip of 17 kilometers and finishes at 03.00 p.m. at the same place. Tender coconuts are offered to drink.
 
20 families of potters are living in the village, where you would have a chance to see them working. Pottery
 
Lunch from house. Ethnic meals on banana leaves are served in a house at the village.
