However, on the few occasions when the trip was funded by government tourist agencies, I've had guides. They varied in helpfulness and local knowledge from exceptional to ... mmm ... less than exceptional. My favorite was Suresh P.R., who runs Palmland Tours in Kerala, India. He's a very bright guy who specializes in guiding journalists. There are several close ties for second, but he's the only one I stay in touch with after some years. I'm curious if you have favorites, other comments on guides, what to expect or not to expect from them, how having a local guide alters the travel experience, etc.". |
