Kerkar Retreat, Calangute, Goa |
| Most tourists come to this stretch of Goa's coast to
sunbathe and party with little regard for the local culture. Kerkar Retreat,
however, offers an alternative. The owner of the guesthouse, Dr Subodh
Kerkar, a medical doctor turned contemporary artist and sculptor, is
committed to preserving Indo-Portuguese architecture and helping sustain the
uniqueness of Goa.
Simple bedrooms filled with paintings, objets d'art, curios and hand painted ceramic tiles, make you feel as if you are in your own private museum. There's an art gallery next door, which exhibits paintings of contemporary Indian artists and if you feel inspired there's also a studio where you can create your own masterpiece. |

There are six simple but spacious rooms, each with their own
private balcony as well as en-suite bathroom and modern conveniences. All
have double beds, a comfortable sitting area and writing facilities.
|
| No two
rooms are alike. Some have balconies, there are two with baths, two have air
conditioning and the others have ceiling fans. If an extra bed is required a
mattress is put on the floor. Each room is designed by Dr Kerkar and abounds
with hand picked works of art, curios and tiles. And if you stay for more
than a couple of days, you may find that the pictures in your room have been
changed!

| The Guest House offers a homely atmosphere in its large sized bedrooms, spacious bathrooms with modern facilities, in the midst of its exquisite interior décor with original paintings, sculptures and other curios.
