Kuttikkanam - one hour
drive from Periyar Tiger reserve and 915 meters
above sea level, this lovely hill
station was once the summer retreat of the Maharajas of
Travancore. Expansive gardens of tea, coffee, cardamom,
and eucalyptus lying side by side with natural grasslands,
pine forests and waterfalls make this an ideal summer
resort. The weather is cool all through the year owing to
its altitude. The pleasing cool breezes make Kuttikkanam
pleasant to be visited any time of the year.
The
rooms are large and attached with bathroom.
Their guestroom has a private entrance and is smoke free.
Adjoining the bedroom we have a lounge room and a reading
room exclusively for the use of guests. Guests will have
private use of these three rooms covering 675 square feet.
There is a selection of books and tea/coffee making
facilities in the reading room. There are garden chairs in
the lawn overlooking the lake, the flower and spice
gardens. There are two small lakes and a pond on the
property.
At mundax homestay you can simply retreat from the turmoil of everyday life and discover the pace of nature. Rates are inclusive of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks - South Indian, Kerala cuisine. Meals will be with your host. Kerala cuisine is mildly flavoured gently cooked. Food is often flavoured with spices such as ginger, cloves, garlic, cinnamon, pepper, mustard, cumin, cardamom, turmeric, chilli and coriander.

Meditation, Trekking to the mountains that surround the
Retreat, Visit Spice Gardens, Birding around the Retreat
and visit to Vagamon Hills.
Your host: Mathew Joseph - Born and raised in
Kerala, South India. Graduated in Commerce from Bangalore
University and worked for couple of years in India before
leaving for overseas. Mathew left India in 1988 with a
backpack to see the world. Hitch hiked and worked his way
through Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, European countries
before settling down in New Zealand, and living there for
the next fifteen years. He has a passion for traveling and
interacting with different cultures around the world.
Mathew came back to India a year ago to set up Mundax
Homestay and Meditation Retreat. He had attended many
meditation retreats over the years, practice meditation
and finds bliss in the lap of present moment conscious
living.
